Named after "Ey Şûh-i Sertab", one of the Turkish art songs sung to her by the father of her child, Sertab, meaning "stubborn, persistent, rebellious shuh", has a structure that does not give up easily like their names.

Along with a lifelong passion for learning and a desire to develop herself professionally, there is also the need to turn inward and to be recognized within her own boundaries. She will not only sing, she will breathe her own soul into Turkish pop.

Sertab Erener, who had a coloratura soprano type voice, attended the Classical Western Music Department of the Conservatory after high school.

However, she quits opera in favor of pop music, which is the appropriate language to reach a wider audience. In the 90s, her professional music performance began to share the stage with Sezen Aksu as well as many other famous artists.

In 1992, with the support of Sezen Aksu and with Atilla Özdemiroğlu, Uzay Heparı, Aysel Gürel and Garo Mafyan, she releases her first album "Sakin Ol". The album surpasses 1 million copies and becomes one of Turkey's best debut albums. Featuring songs such as "Sakin Ol!", "Aldırma Deli Gönlüm", "Ateşle Barut", "Vurulduk", "Oyun Bitti", "O Ye" and "Suçluyum", the album is one of the albums that a generation knows by heart from start to finish.

Sertab's second album "Lâl" was released in 1994. This album was still very well received and the title song "Lâl" was included as the only Turkish song in the millennium set "Sony Music 100 Years: Soundtrack for a Century" millennium set, which includes more than five songs, as the only Turkish song. Erener received the Best Pop Female Artist award at the Kral TV Video Music Awards in 1995.

In the album "Sertab Gibi" released in 1997, the artist included songs she wrote herself for the first time. Music videos are shot for the songs "Aslolan Aşktır", "Seyrüsefer", "İncelikler Yüzünden", "Aaa" and "Yara". Thanks to her strong voice and stage performance, Sertab Erener shares the stage with José Carreras in 1998.

In 1999, she released her fourth studio album under her own name, accompanied by "Makber" written by Abdülhak Hamit and Mozart's composition "Queen of the Night". The album ranked number one on the best-selling albums charts. The songs "Yanarım", "Zor Kadın", "Vur Yüreğim" and "Yolun Başında" become the hits of the album "Sertab Erener".

"Vur Yüreğim" receives the Best Lyrics Award at the Kral TV Video Music Awards. In the same year, Erener is joined by Ricky Martin on the song "Private Emotion" and this duet is included in the Turkish and Middle Eastern editions of the Latin American artist's album released in 1999.

In 2000, she released a compilation album titled "Sertab" and an EP titled "Bu Yaz" in Europe. The EP also includes the memorable Turkish-Greek song "Aşk/Fos", which the artist sang with Mando. During this period, Sertab Erener opens the window of Turkey and gives big concerts in Europe.

In 2001, she released her fifth album titled "Orange". This album, which was presented with the color orange, symbolizing warmth, sunshine and positive markets, again became number one in the best-selling albums charts. Songs such as "Kumsalda" and "Söz Bitti" from Turuncu became hits in a short time and stayed on the charts for a long time. In the same year, Sertab Erener receives the Best Turkish Pop Music Female Soloist award at the Golden Butterfly Awards and releases the song "Kendime Yeni Bir Ben Lazım".

The singer represents Turkey in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest with a spectacular performance that captured the attention of the whole Europe.

"Everyway That I Can" wins first place at the contest in Riga and Istanbul hosts the contest in 2004. The song enters the charts in many European countries, reaching number one in the official charts of Sweden and Greece. At the Eurovision 50th Anniversary Celebration in Denmark, "Everyway That I Can" is chosen ninth out of a thousand songs that have competed at Eurovision in the last fifty years.

With her Eurovision success, the artist is deemed eligible for the Republic of Turkey's State Distinguished Service Medal. Erener is given the Honorary Award at the MÜ-YAP Music Awards and the Kral TV Video Music Awards. In the same year, she takes the stage with many other singers at the Royal Albert Hall.

In 2004, she releases her first English studio album No Boundaries in Europe and the album hits the music markets in many European countries such as Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Greece, the UK, Poland, the Czech Republic and many more. Sertab Erener's status as a world-class artist is once again confirmed.

In August, he sings the National Anthem at the Turkish Grand Prix. In the same year, the Ministry of National Education includes Sertab Erener in the Social Studies course = "The artist who won the first first place in Eurovision for the first time".

In 2007, her album "Sertab Erener'in En İyisi - En İyiler" was released. In addition to songs from her previous albums, the album also includes the Isolina Carrillo song "Dos Gardenias", which she sang for the movie "When Luck Breaks the Door", and the Madonna song "Music", which she sang for the documentary "Crossing the Bridge - Sound of Istanbul".

The same year, the remix album "Sertab Goes to the Club" is released. In this album, Sertab's most beloved songs are given a new lease of life in a different and modern electronic environment by the important names Murat Uncuoğlu and Aytekin Kurt. Interpretations titled "Now I Remember" for the social responsibility project DRUM (Dialogue, Respect and Understanding Through Music).

In October, he will meet his fans in the United States in concerts with Fahir Atakoğlu at Carnegie Hall in New York, one of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, and at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, where the Oscar ceremonies are held.

In September, he celebrates the 15th anniversary of his career with a spectacular concert titled "Otobiyografi" at the Harbiye Open Air Theater, hosted by artists such as Sezen Aksu, Levent Yüksel, Fahir Atakoğlu, Nil Karaibrahimgil. In 2008, the concert was released as a DVD with exclusive interviews with close friends of the artist.

Sertab releases Rengârenk in 2010. Songs such as "Açık Adres", "Rengârenk", "Bu Böyle", "Koparılan Çiçek", "İstanbul", "Bir Çaresi Bulunur" cemented the success of the artist's musical career. The albums, which she also produced for the first time, became one of the best-selling albums of the year and won Sertab Erener the Best Pop Female Artist Award at the Kral TV Video Music Awards.

In March and April, to promote the jazz-fusion single "Love", which was released with the band Painted on Water in March and April, she toured with the band Painted on Water on the "Painted on Water PR Tour 2010", appearing on television programs in twenty-three cities in the United States and performing three concerts.

In 2012, they released "Ey Şûh-i Sertab", the Turkish art music album she prepared for her father. With the album, in which fifteen old Turkish Art Music songs were re-vocalized in accordance with their originals, Sertab Erener won the Best Turkish Art Music Female Soloist award at the Golden Butterfly Awards and the album became the second best-selling album of the year. With "Sade", released in 2013, she produces an album of her own for the first time. The singles "İyileşiyorum", "Öyle de Güzel" and "Söz" climb to the top of the charts.

Sertab released her single "Ben Öyle Birini Sevdim ki" in 2014. The music video of the song "Kız Leyla" (Girl Leyla), which she wrote with Sezen Aksu for children, directed by Çağan Irmak with the Sabancı Foundation, is introduced with a bridal launch in April 2015, and the singer also releases her single "Tesadüf Aşk" in the same year. In 2015, she became a jury member of the contest called "Sesi Çok Güzel" on Fox TV.

Sertab releases "Broken Hearts Album" in June 2016 and the album's title track "Kime Diyorum" remains number one for more than two weeks. Produced by Emre Kula, the album features lyrics and compositions by Yıldız Tilbe, Can Bonomo, Soner Sarıkabadayı, Ersel Serdarlı and others. With Kırık Kalpler, which was selected as the album of the year by Radyo Boğaziçi, Erener adds a new one to her numerous achievements in the 25th year of her career.

Sertab Erener will digitally release her single "Bu Dünya" (This World) in May 2020, with lyrics by her and music by Emre Kula.

The artist's 13th studio album, produced by Emre Kula, was released in June 2020. It also includes lyrics and compositions by Emre Kula, Ersel Serdarlı, Doğan Duru, Sezen Aksu and Can Bonomo. Erener can use "free and without rules" for her album "Ben Yaşamım".
