Can Tutuğ

Can Tutuğ studied vibraphone with Amy Salsgiver at Istanbul Technical University Dr. Erol Üçer Center for Advanced Studies in Music in 2013.

With lessons from Tony Miceli, he focused on jazz harmony and improvisation.

He performed with Trakya Academy Chamber Orchestra and also with the group he formed called “The Cold Vibes” at the “Jazz at the Parks” event by winning the International Istanbul Jazz Festival’s Young Jazz competition.

He has been performing at the International Istanbul Jazz Festival’s events ever since. At 2017, he was accepted to a 3-month gamelan education programme by winning the Indonesian Art and Culture Scholarship Guidance Project.

Same year at April 30th World Jazz Day, he organized a public concert tribute to Thelonious Monk’s 100th birthday and performed Thelonious Monk’s compositions.

Arthur George from AllAboutJazz writes that he feels Bobby Hutcherson’s transcendent music while listening to Can Tutuğ who actively performs at domestic and international jazz gigs.

Tutuğ, who appeared in many European countries and stages between 2015-2021, released his first albüm titled “Huzursuzluk” together with the drummer Erdem Uvalıoğlu in 2020. Consisting of only a vibraphone and a drum, this albüm has been deemed remarkable in terms of harmonic richness of the vibraphone. He performed the first solo vibraphone concert in Turkey titled “Bir Başına” in 2021, causing quite a stir both in Turkey and abroad. Can Tutuğ still pursues his career as a xylosynth artist in Turkey and abroad.
